The State Land and Soil Evaluation Event is a competition where teams from across Idaho come to judge soil and their properties. This contest is designed to help participants be able to recognize soil properties, crop production capabilities, water conservation practices, and how to manage various soil types. Each October, the East and West Cassia Soil & Water Conservation District host the State Land and Soil Evaluation as part of the state competition to see which teams advance to nationals.

In 2024 there was a total of 19 teams with five FFA or 4-H participants on each team at the competition. At the end of the day, the team from Genesee was the 1st place team and the team from Cambridge took 2nd. Those two teams advanced to nationals to represent Idaho there.

In conjunction with the competition, there was also a career fair for the youth to meet with ag professionals and make connections in their interested fields. The Mid-Snake RC&D is proud to support this awesome event each fall and hopes for more interest and growth in the future.
